Puff ~~ Puff ~~ Puff ~~ Wow! I really should quit smoking… Puff ~~ Puff. But if I quit smoking, I just know I’ll gain weight! Puff ~~ Puff. Well, maybe after I finish this pack – THEN I’ll quit.
Hmmmm, Is this scenario familiar to you? Have you ever had the urge and desire to quit smoking but hesitated because you were afraid to gain weight? Unfortunately, this is a very common excuse! On the other hand, many people tend to use smoking as a weight loss or weight maintenance measure.
Georgine was a very pretty woman. She had a couple of pounds to lose, but it wasn’t much – only about 10 or 15 pounds. However, Georgine was also a smoker. She “wanted” to stop smoking, but was terrified at the prospect of putting on weight. In fact, she was so adamant and concerned about her weight, that the smoking issue, which was a much bigger issue, was put on the back burner because of her fears. Little did she know all of the additives that are put into the tobacco in cigarettes. Additives that are potentially extremely dangerous!
Things were coming to a head when Georgine got to the point of refusing to eat. She was becoming very nervous and even started to smoke more because of it. So in essence, she was really stuck in a loop. Georgine came to me in this condition, and it was rapidly getting worse.
I sat down with her to go over her options and to find out what she really wanted to accomplish. Was she interested in losing weight, quit smoking or both. She told me she really wanted to quit but saw what it had done to her sister when she did. Georgine said there was no way she was going to get fat like her. And with that, she broke down and cried!
After giving her the time she needed to expend her emotional outburst, I explained to Georgine that there was absolutely no reason for her to gain ANY weight just because she wanted to quit smoking. In fact, with hypnosis, it’s a very simple process to quit smoking and remain at your current weight and/or even lose all the weight you want. With that news, Georgine became very animated and thrilled at that prospect. She got so excited, that she wanted to start her session right that very minute!
While working with her, I explained how critical it was for her to continue to breathe deeply. If you think about it, each time you take a deep drag on a cigarette, you are actually doing some deep breathing exercises. Now just imagine doing that deep breathing but without the smoke in your lungs. I have very specific breathing exercises available to my clients who have come to my office to quit smoking. It is extremely effective as well as keeps the oxygen levels in their body elevated, which in turn helps with weight loss and stress reduction. Using these proven methods allows my clients to keep from putting on the “dreaded” extra weight.
Georgine followed all the hypnosis suggestions and also did her deep breathing exercises. As her extra weight melted off, she was absolutely thrilled. And as a bonus, her smoking habit became non-existent. Needless to say, Georgine is a very happy and smoke-free woman even today!
