If you are like most people, you simply do NOT drink enough water during the day. Now the average person will drink liquids, but that is typically in the form of coffee, or soda or even some diet drinks… but that is not water!
Water is critical for your body to function properly. In fact, it is said that each person should consume their weight in ounces divided by 2, on a daily basis! In other words, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking 75 ounces… or 6.25 glasses of water (12 ounces glasses) each and every day!
If you spread that amount of water out over the day, it will be extremely easy to consume just what you need. A very good way is to simply have one half glass of water at the top of the hour. More if you choose. Exercise will easily give you the need to increase your consumption of water. And, of course, hot weather will also determine your needs for increased water as well. Listen to your body!
The easiest way to lose weight is to make sure you are well hydrated. The best way to do that is through drinking water. If you consume caffeine and/or even alcohol, both will dehydrate your body and you will find yourself even thirstier… but often times drinking more coffee instead of the water your body needs. Diet soft drinks/sodas will make you hungry. (But more on that in a future post)
The type of water you want to drink is also a concern. Unfiltered tap water is actually not the best choice. Unfortunately, there are so many toxins in tap water that if you were to get it tested, the toxin list would be a mile long. It is always best to drink filtered water, but that does not necessarily mean that the bottled water you buy is the best choice either. Read your labels.
There are many filtration units available for home use that are very good. I am not here to recommend nor condemn any one in particular… that is your choice as to what you prefer and what you can afford to spend. However, although wasteful, one of the best (and unfortunately one of the most expensive) is “RO” filters… Reverse Osmosis. Once again, I will cover in more detail the ins and outs of filtration in another post.
If you have concerns about being able to drink the appropriate amount of water for you, or if you don’t recall how much you have consumed, simply measure out your full day’s water allotment and either keep it in the refrigerator or on the counter… whether you prefer your water cold, or room temperature. When the container is finished, you will have consumed sufficient water for the day. Of course, feel free to drink more water if you so choose.
Keep in mind, if you are looking to lose weight, and you “think” you are hungry, reach for that glass of water first! Wait for at least 5 minutes after that water is done and see if you are still hungry. Chances are you were just thirsty and your “hunger” is no longer evident. Losing weight actually becomes easier when you are hydrated. Flushing your system with water by drinking the correct amount for you will assist your weight loss immensely!
If you are finding it challenging to drink the necessary amount of water daily, you might consider outside help in the form of hypnosis. Hypnosis is an extremely powerful tool that will stay with you a lifetime, making it so much easier to accomplish your goals. Not only your water drinking goals, but so many others as well.
