When was the last time you felt this way… At lunch you had a few hot dogs complete with the trimmings. Perhaps you even had chili added as a topping. As you gobbled up those aromatic hot dogs, they tasted ever so good to you. However, when you returned to work, an hour later your stomach is grumbling and actually causing you to burp up your lunch… which by the way is not tasting nearly as good as it did when it went down the first time. So immediately you reach into your desk drawer and look for an antacid remedy. That ought to take care of your problem. But after chewing down the first tablet, and then the second, you still have no relief – so you say to yourself, if a little bit is good, then a few more should be even better, right? Then of course, you pop a couple more of the antacids hoping and praying for some much-needed relief. Eventually they do just that, but let’s take a look at what has happened to your natural digestive system along the way…
So just how important is pH to weight loss? Actually, very important. Our bodies are in a constant state of flux from one extreme to another with our pH, and yes, it truly is designed to be like that. For instance, in a normal, healthy human being, our skin is slightly on the acidic side – around 5.5 or so. If you were to use a specialized pH strip to test your saliva, (inexpensive and available from any pharmacy) it could easily range from 6.5 to 7.4, depending upon what time of day you test as well as when you have eaten. It all plays a part in the scheme of things. If your body is on the acidic side, your saliva test can easily be as low as 5.0. Optimally, it is best to be in the normal or neutral range of 7.0 or thereabouts.
For those who do have acid reflux and other difficulties with their stomachs, instead of reaching for those antacids right away, perhaps considering changing your diet might be a better choice to do. Let’s face it. Your digestive system NEEDS the stomach acid in order to burn the food you consume. If you are constantly popping antacids, what do you think is happening to the natural order of your digestion? Nothing good, I can assure you. It becomes a vicious cycle. For the record, a tall glass of water has been proven to be the best remedy for acid reflux.
As far as weight loss is concerned, it is so much easier shedding those unwanted pounds by keeping your body in balance… and the key word truly is B A L A N C E. Not only in pH, but also in every aspect of living as well. Eating balanced meals is critical for allowing your body to process the foods you consume to give you the fuel you need. In turn it will utilize that food to the best of your body’s ability, allowing your body to return to its normal and natural weight. Of course, proper exercise plays an integral part in this as well. Yes, it all works together. Just like everything in your life, balance is the key!
You would be amazed as to how easy it is to turn an acidic pH around simply by choosing the right kinds of foods. There are many alkalizing foods that are easy to consume and enjoyable too. You probably already do some without even realizing the good they are doing for your body. Here is a small, convenient list of alkalizing foods from www.womantowoman.com that can easily turn around any acid pH problem and bring about the health and wellness of your body in an enjoyable manner – all without using OTC medications. NOTE: Be aware that even though lemon juice is an acid, the body metabolizes it as an alkaline – therefore making drinking lemon water a very good way to not only hydrate your body, but to alkalize your body as well! Keep in mind when looking to alkalize your body, it takes 20 parts alkalinity to neutralize 1 part acidity in your body.

You will see from the charts that there are quite a lot of food choices of alkalizing fruits, vegetables and proteins available for you to pick from in your endeavor to keep your body in optimal pH. When Tina was a little girl, she remembered her stomach always hurting her after she ate. Of course at that time, acid reflux and pH was not as commonly known as it is now. Her mother would have her lay down with a hot water bottle over her stomach. Then “the pink stuff” was given to help with the hurting. This continued on for years. But after Tina got older, she began to choose antacids simply because they were more portable than the liquid. One day Tina and her friend were out for lunch. Tina ordered a burger with some lettuce and a small slice of tomato on it, a plateful of fries and a large carbonated drink. Her friend had ordered a very large green salad including lots of vegetables in it, and to drink, a delicious, fragrant peppermint tea along with a large glass of spring water with a generous slice of lemon.
Before Tina even took a bite of her food, she popped and chewed 3 antacids. Her friend was very surprised, but said nothing. After the meals, Tina took another 3 antacids, then paid her bill. Now more than curious, her friend had asked why she was doing antacids before and after each meal. Tina replied that ever since she was a child, her history of eating always included massive stomach and intestinal pain – so this was her way of countering that situation.
Taking Tina aside, her friend confided in her the secret to preventing the stomach aches and cramping. First of all, she said, always include fresh, spring water – up to 8 glasses or more a day, with lemon if you can. She then proceeded to explain the importance of eating fresh and alive foods at each meal. Eating the dark greens like broccoli, and dark leafy greens, like kale and spinach, always allows the digestion to function at its best. Fermented foods such as sauerkraut, are very effective pH balancing foods that can quickly and easily eliminate stomach distress. Choosing the majority of foods (from the lists) can easily calm down all your stomach anguish, said Tina’s friend. I am confident that in a short amount of time, all your popping of those antacids will be a thing of the past.
Totally amazed at this revelation, Tina decided she would trust her friend and give her recommendations a try. What did she have to lose… why her stomach and intestinal problems, of course! So right off the bat, Tina changed her eating habits to include multiple choices from the lists. It took her a few weeks of being diligent, but it truly did work. She no longer needed to pop her antacids either before OR after her meals. Tina was drinking lots of water (yes, with the lemon) and lo and behold, she started to lose her excess weight as well as feel so much better! She had tested her saliva on a daily basis with the pH test strips and was amazed as to how and what she ate registered on the test strip. Now that her saliva pH was in the somewhat neutral range (7.0 +/- a few tenths) Tina found that it was so much easier for her to keep the weight off too. With her pH in order and her digestion working well, she was now a walking billboard for health.
Tina has been extremely grateful to her friend for sharing this vital information with her. Now when they go out to eat, Tina and her friend eat similar meals and each have loads of energy too. A far cry from what she grew up with. Now Tina is a staunch advocate of eating properly and keeping her pH in the best range for her through her food choices. All this, and feeling good too, thanks to a caring friend.
